Garden 2010

Garden The garden is starting to come into view a bit.  It looks rag-tag and a bit un-kept, but such is it's emergence from winter sleep.  What you really do not see is that under the row tunnel there is about a hundred tomato plants, 32 peppers (and several more flats in the seedling chamber I built last year) and some kale.  In addition there are several Chard plants already in the ground and that patch of green in the third row from the left is my parsnips coming back from the winter nap.

The garden is only about 1/3 tilled, and it takes me a bit longer to till it due to the fact that I hand till a 125' X 50' garden space with nothing more than a shovel and manpower.  In about three months this garden will look nothing like this.

Off to the left there are two 125' long rows of grape vines, and several herb plots even further to the left.  There is a lot to do and the rain is definitely not helping.  As you can see from the sky, dark storm clouds covered us all night, and are just now beginning to move on.  It probably won't be dry enough to continue tilling tomorrow, but I have been keeping busy with starting a flat of Callendula and Nasturtiums.  I am planning on a lot more greens this year as opposed to previous years, and hope to have a more heterogeneous garden planning this year.
